How video editing can make a HUGE difference

Most young and new Youtubers who are just starting out usually never consider to try editing their videos for simple reasons such as it is not necessary or they think their videos are already perfect. Through experience, I can tell you that doing something as simple as adding an annotation to a video makes a huge impact on your channel. Here are a few things that explain how video editing makes a difference for your videos.

Professional looking vs amateurs

In one of my old threads I explained that there is extreme competition in the video industry. It is really hard to gain attention if everyones videos are exactly the same. Video editing can actually make any video look professional. Any video with things like annotations and cuts shows the viewers that perhaps you have experience with youtube videos and perhaps you know what your doing, which overall makes them believe that you are a professional youtuber who knows how to make good videos! Your videos will look much better then the other thousands of videos that are trying to compete with you.

Better detailed/no unnecessary content

Mostly in tutorial videos and gaming videos it is almost a must to edit videos in order to retain the viewers attention. Any person can get bored watching tutorials or gaming videos that are either dragging on or are not clear and understandable. Cutting the video helps get rid of parts of the video that really are not necessary and adding annotations helps add more detail, especially when explaining something. It's important for all videos to show the best possible content with enough details.

Quality not quantity

I knew a friend who has made 200 videos with a total of 400 000 views, while I've made 1 video with the same amount of views. Why? Because of quality vs quantity. Videos that have been edited do 10 times better then say 100 videos with not editing what so ever. Of course you need to put some effort but it's better then wasting hours of making poorly edited videos. Quality of videos is what viewers look for and quantity just gives viewers something else to watch.

I think you make a great point. Edited videos do look a lot better, and it's all part of becoming a better YouTuber. The more you practice, the better you'll get. Just like commentaries too.
 
I totally agree with you, this message should go to all upcoming youtubers, especially gamers !!!!!
They all want to get as many subs as pewdiepie but they don't realise that he spends like 3 hours on editing per video!
Gaming vids without editing won't get views!!!
 
I agree, editing can make a boring video watchable. Simple Jumpcuts are great if not abused and keep the viewer interested.
 
It comes with time. I went from not editing videos just doing raw bits with minor cuts, to doing as many cuts as possible, to adding stuff as simple as generic text on the screen, to adding small effects, then music with SFX and transitions, mainly depends on if I'm doing LPs or highlight/montage stuff with friends. Wasn't till around about the 7-9 month mark I think, sort of when I started my new channel. I don't think it helps that much considering I've seen people do purely raw stuff and still grow from 0-100k in less than 6 months when I've been doing it for 1yr. I really wish I started doing it earlier though because I enjoy my own videos more with the more editing I put in, just a bit of a kick in nuts when you see raw vids go zooming right past you after you spend 10hrs+ and sometimes up to 2 weeks waiting for inspiration to kick in, ironically though I still watch people like LordMinion777 every once in a while.

An important lesson they tried to teach us in the video editing stream for my comp sci course years back was how to use music and SFX to tell a story, I was way too inexperienced with video editing to understand what they were trying to teach us and frankly p****d off since they gave us a crummy video to try it with. Why I didn't think to do it earlier with gaming videos baffles me but it's amazing how the whole vibe & story from a video changes with music, SFX and effects. Like if I'm trolling or doing something shifty I'll have sneaky type of music in the background to give any (experienced) viewers the heads up that I'm building up to something or doing something sneaky when it's not so obvious since they can't read my mind and I might not be talking that much. I'll throw in some SFX here and there for transitions and little fail moments.
 
Well that's right, nice video editing skills make a HUGE difference with poorly edited ones. But I wouldn't say it guarantees a lot of views, even if it can improve them a bit. I personally have learned a lot of after effects tutorials and I think my videos are pretty good quality (in my opinion) but I really can't say I get a large public ^^
Then anyway if I don't consider the views, I think that putting a lot of work into a video from the shots to the editing still gives a nice self satisfaction ! (sorry for mistakes I could have done, I'm french..)
