How to select the first frame on Youtube video

Hi all,

How to select/set the first frame, the cover page on Youtube video.

Whenever I upload a video to Youtube, they process it on their website and select the first frame displayed. It is possible to fix the first frame by ourselves. Before starting the first frame is displayed.

I did it years ago but unfortunately I forget the steps. Can any folk set me some light? Thanks.

Hi,

When embedding a Youtube video on website before playing it the visitor will see the first static frame (cover page). Years ago I knew how to set it with my selected frame displayed, not to be selected by youtube during the upload video being processing.

Just found following article:
Choosing a YouTube Video Cover Image
support.wix.com/en/article/choosing-a-youtube-video-cover-image

Have not tried it yet

Isn't the cover image same as your video thumbnail? I believe that's the reason why video thumbnails are uploaded 1280x720.

Hi,

I'm not going to use an additional video thumbnail as the cover page. I'm prepared using an image/frame inside the video upload to Youtube as the cover page which is displayed on the video after processing by Youtube.

I'm quite sure it can be done selecting an image/frame as cover page/frame from the video upload. I did it many times in the past. Unfortunately I forgot the steps. Now Youtube selects an image/frame for me.

I'm not sure how it worked in the past and quite frankly I'm not 100% sure how it works now but to me it seems like the video thumbnail is now used as the video cover image. Someone more experienced correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe you are wanting to know how to set a custom thumbnail.

Before you can use custom thumbnails, I think you need to verify your account by giving YouTube your phone number, but I'm not entirely sure (It's been forever since I did this step, and I'm not sure if it's still a requirement). First check the YouTube feature page to make sure you have "Custom Thumbnails" set to "Enabled:"
https://www.youtube.com/features

If it's not enabled, there should be some set of steps there that will tell you how to enable it.

Once it has been enabled, then you can use whatever picture you want as the thumbnail. If you want to use a frame from the video, export the frame directly from your video editing software, or just take a screenshot of it while it's playing in full-screen mode. You can also edit text onto the picture to make it more descriptive, but make sure it's readable once the picture shrinks down to be a tiny video cover.

Once you have the picture that you want to use for the thumbnail, follow these steps to add it to your video:

Do ctrl + F5 if you uploaded a thumbnail, but it hasn't changed on the website. It's probably just your browser catche that needs to refresh. ^_^

Hi all,

I got it done. It is NOT complicate at all.

Steps:
1) Login my Youtube account and upload the video
2) After upload finished, click -> Advanced Settings
3) Click -> Video Manager
4) On next page there are 3 thumbnails displayed. They are selected by Youtube.
5) The 1st thumbnail is the Title Page at the beginning of the video uploaded. That is the cover page which I need.
6) Click the 1st thumbnail -> Set as thumbnail
7) Done

Anyway lot of thanks for your advice.
