How to make pro-looking thumbnail?

Okay so share your experience with me please. In which program do you make your custom thumbnails and do you have any recommendations on which font type I should put on there. For example if I want to write “Gopro Ski Edit“, which font do you recommend? Do you use a specific pack of fonts that you've downloaded from somewhere or not?
My current thumbnail is just a frame from my ski edit. I print screened it in Final Cut, imported it into Aperture and tweaked it a bit, but I'd like to do something more with it

I use GIMP2 to create my thumbs, it's easy to edit particular parts of the image via layers without messing around with anything you don't want to change. Also i would suggest any font that is thick and stands out, i'm not sure if you know of this website but here'sa link anyway http://dafont.com

Download a bunch of fonts and use them at random. Use gradients and drop shadows. See some of my thumbnails. If you lie it, I can give uou more ideas and why you are at it, why not subscribe

I like Bebas, quite a nice pro looking sans serif display font.
