How to get more youtube comments?

So I was thinking about community on youtube and the best way to start getting more comments on your videos. Certainly commenting and being active on youtube with your privacy of liked videos set to Public, is a good method. Any one else care to share?

Interact with viewers in your videos, and be sure to tell them to leave a comment down below, as a video question or something to the equivalent, it all helps in the end.

Yep, The best way i think is to genuinely ask a question or ask for their views on whatever it is ect...
Its doesnt have to be so obvious like at the end saying ANSWER MY QUESTION!!!
just stick some in there throughout the video :)

I just created a new series in which a major goal is to get as many comments as possible. Only more retention time for the videos is a higher priority, but to spike the comments I'm doing a few different things. The first is giving away free accounts from the game I post on. This won't work for everyone, but for me, can easily pick up 200+ additional comments.

If it's not a giveaway, then I'll be putting something in such as, leave all questions for the Q&A to be made later this week, apply to have me play on and improve your account by commenting, run a contest for guild shout outs and/or channel shout outs via commenting. Basically every video in this series will have a distinct purpose to comment on the video.

While I've been more than bad about not keeping up with comments, I'm going to get back to the respond to all. My habit is always to either respond to none or all, but once I grew, that meant a huge time commitment that I wasn't really geared up for. That hurt me in the long run more than most realize. Well that and posting 10x less than I should have been, but I'm getting back to the old chat ***** me which will basically increase the comments by 2x when I keep up with each video for the first 1 to 3 days.

By utilizing my comments section in that manner, posting 20+ videos instead of 4-8 in a month, and making every video really have the theme of getting as many viewers to interact with me and others in the community, I am eager to see if I can control the suggested videos and search rankings as I did initially for my niche market. If I do, then I'll definitely have many on this forum to thank for all the advise and guides, and a new YouTube strategy series will be next. Fingers crossed :P

Ask them something relatable, but interesting, something where people won't be afraid to speak up. Also if you mention other viewers' comments sometimes it will encourage others to speak up.

Because my videos aren't scripted (just bullet pointed), I don't always know what will end up coming out of my mouth, and I often forget to propose a topic for comments. Truth be told, though, I don't think there is a big difference in number of type of comments depending on whether I propose a particular topic. I am thinking about leaving a comment on my own videos--never done this before--to see if that starts more of a conversation.
