how to build a fanbase

i searched for this, but i didn't find anything helpful.
can someone please share their experience with building a fanbase.

i know, i have to interact, comment and watch other youtubers. but i think it's very difficult in the beginning. others may think you only subbed 4 getting subscribed...

so where did you find your first fan/ subscriber?
and how did you get the rest?
it's much easier if you have already some subscribers, maybe they share your videos to others.
but like i said: how did you get to this point?

Our first fans and subs were our family and friends... We forced them at gun point to sub to us.. Now they share our video's and actually leave feedback. So I think they have grown to like us.
The rest came from going to forums like this one and getting to know people and asking them to check us out and send us feed back and slowly people started talking to other people and bam here we are.
 
To build a fanbase you need fans, so work on getting subscribers, every now and then one of those subs will turn into a fan. Once you got enough fans. Try and connect with your subs, you will build a fan base automatically
