How much does changing your channel name effect your performance?

Brainbean

I've Got It
Hey everyone,

I started my channel getting close to 3 months ago on a whim. I didn't know what kind of channel I wanted to make fore sure but I knew it was going to be about gaming. Since then I have grown into a style I like and found my niche. At the time I didn't know what name I wanted for the channel. I decided to go with my in game name I have used for years. I have used Brainbean forever, It came from a cartoon I drew in high school some 12 years ago so most people who don't know me see the name and don't get it. Now that I am almost up to 300 subs and 40k views I am wondering if I should change my name and branding to be something more accessible or should I just keep the name since its unique.

From my experience, changing your youtube name can be a bit of a hassle. I used to be "memocoolgirl5 gaming" and my IGN's were all mainly "memocoolgirl5" which was rather annoying and difficult to remember. So I changed to just "MemoGaming", at first it was ok, but then I realized I needed to change all my IGN's as this is where I would usually meet people who want to watch my channel and having the wrong username kinda threw them off. Although it did help in the long run as my sub count has risen and now when people ask me for my channel name its really easy to find.

In my case, I feel I choose the best name, because seems people are interested on my channel name and checking my channel. More than 50% viewer of my channel is directly from YouTube. :p
In about 20 days I am near 200 sub already and I do believe my channel name helped me a lot.

I do get a lot of question about my name. my reasoning for keeping it is that if pewdiepie can be popular with a silly name then my name not making a lot of sense right away shouldn't be a problem. I am mainly thinking about dropping "Gaming" from the title. Everything I do pertains to gaming but my channel isn't the typical gaming channel. I don't do lets plays or stuff like that it's reviews and news and things like that

When I changed my name, it didn't really affect my performance. A few months after I changed me name, you could still search my old name and find me.

Well I thought about that a little, basically because of the numbers in my nick. Some people say I should remove them, because isn't a sign of "professionality" but on the other hand I tried and it sounded so empty. I really hope that this isn't one of the causes for my slow growth xD.

Keep it. It's personal and has a story to it. You are doing fantastic where you're at and although it can be frustrating if things are moving slow, I don't think changing your name will have a positive effect.
