How Much Do YouTube Contacts Matter?

I'd never actually seen it until now... apparently I have a contact. :eek: Meh. It just looks like a quick way to PM someone, by the looks of it.
 
Yeah I keep getting the endless contact requests I just ignore them, if someone wants to talk to me they can message me and i'll add them as a contact afterwards sure but it seems most people randomly adding just use it to spam vids
 
I really don't think that there is any point to contacts, I know that it used to send a thing on their news feeds if you upload a video, but i'm not sure if that still happens on the one channel layout
