How Much Do New Games Affect Me?

People always say that if you make videos about new and popular games, your more likely to get more views and subscribers.

Is it true?

If I made GTA IV videos, would I get less views compared to making CoD Black Ops 2 videos?

This has to be true to a point, but I want to know to what point.

I have gotten feedback on some of my videos, and one person said that if I would have uploaded my GTA IV videos in 2010, I'd have 100x more views, because GTA IV was newer and more popular then.

So should I only make videos of new and popular games?

Also, is it better to make videos of new, unheard of games, or older, popular games?

My guess is the newer the better, as long as its popular.

Please help, and thank you for everything!

I'd agree with this.

Once you reach a certain point with your channel, then introducing new unpopular games is a nice way to keep people interested. But to get things started, making videos about newer games is a good idea. People tend to be more interested in watching gameplay of something that they haven't necessarily seen before, and there is less videos created by everyone in the youtubeverse if you stick to newer games.

That being said, just because your gameplay is from a new game, you still have to compete against all those other folks that have established channels that buy games at midnight because the revenue from their channel can support it.

Well when something is new, in this case; games, people will be searching the internet for that game. How many people do you think look up a game from 2005? Probably not many.

That being said, you should never make a video just because it's popular to get more views/subs unless you truly enjoy the video. If you don't really care for a new popular game, then don't make a video of it.

I think I need to start making videos with newer games :) I think it would really help! Thank you for the feedback and support!

Good point :)! I will make sure I enjoy making the video as well!

It's good to have a healthy mix of newer games as well as games you simply enjoy playing whether their new or not. Viewers can tell if you're "into" a game or not.

But yeah, new games are good :)

Kind of goes without saying that a newer game will draw in a bigger audience but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make videos about older titles.

Newer games yes are a good way to get more views but there's a lot of competition(so it might actually have a reverse effect and cause you to get less) that's why most people suggest waiting a bit before making a video.

I would be recording all the newest games (that is, the ones I like) if I could afford them and had the hardware to run them well while recording.

I'm going to start watching for new games I want to play, and make videos on them, along with my favorites!

How long should you wait?

That's the thing, I'm in school, and don't have a job :P so I'm sort of limited.
