How much do channel URLs matter?

As of now, my channel name is TheUnicornScribe, but my channel URL is nightwings99. I set it as that a few years ago when I wasn't serious about YouTube or posting videos, and now, obviously, I can't change it to match my channel name.

What I've been considering is creating a new channel and moving some of my newer videos onto it so that I can start from scratch with a nifty new channel URL. Then, I can use my old channel for vlogs and other things. I'm wondering, though--is it really necessary? How important are channel URLs to marketing and brand names?

It's all about branding, and rolling with a theme. If the url is THAT different, it'll be confusing, and plus not to mention it doesn't look very professional (no offense). In short; yes, change the url. If my channel is LyfeWithDragons, people should think "Oh, his link must be youtube.com/LyfeWithDragons" which is it. Now, I know it may not be the case if you can't get the name you desire, but at least make it close. Add "tv", "games", whatever it is you plan on doing at the end of the name. That way it at least has the name in the URL. :D[DOUBLEPOST=1413098614,1413098331][/DOUBLEPOST]Nice videos by the way!

@LyfeWithDragons Thanks!
I was keeping in mind a few big YouTubers I watch who have channel URLs that are quite a bit different from their channel name, but I suppose that they can get away with it only because they're big.
You're right, it's not very professional--no offense taken! I was just a little hesitant because I already have a few videos that I'd prefer not to have to move over.
Is there a way to change the date a video was posted?

Like after it was posted? No. All you can do is set the date it was recorded, and schedule uploads. You can keep the videos on that channel, and just let it be, if you want.[DOUBLEPOST=1413098914,1413098895][/DOUBLEPOST]Or move them!

I don't think URL's are a massive deal. It's pretty cool if you can keep everything along the sames lines but I know lots of quite large channels that have the weirdest URL's :p

So a channel called DaksGames with a URL saying "youtube.com/DaxGamesHD1995SwagYolo26er167TV wouldn't be a big deal? URL's matter for marketing, which is what the OP asked. xD

Yeah, I've seen that :D I was just wondering if it was like taboo for trying to easily advertise your channel. You're right--they're not really that big of a deal. Just huntin' for some opinions.

Well luckily my current URL is merely "nightwings99" so hopefully not quite that extreme XD But in this case my URL is pretty random considering I don't have "nightwings" or "99" anywhere in my channel name. So I think it's best I change channels now before I start posting a lot and regret it later.

I've seen channels do just fine with weird a** URL's.. Like I said in my post it's more convenient if everything (youtube + other social media etc.) is pretty much the same thing. A different URL isn't the end of the world is all I'm saying... The main question in the OP was 'How much do they matter?'. I simply left my opinion on that specific question.

Haha, I know. I was just being more direct to her question, that's all.

The url is important for branding, but it's not huge of a deal :p i wouldn't start over just because of it

Well, since her channel isn't that big yet, it might be best if she's wanting to brand herself. :D
