How important is sticking to a single video topic?

Originally I wanted to post videos of different scuba diving trips that I go on, the problem is, I can't go scuba diving that often and not at all during the winter where I live. Is it a big deal if I have a wider range of video topics? Everything I post is going to be in the outdoor adventure veriety like hiking, exploring, diving, etc. Do you guys think it will hurt my channel growth to have a wider range of topics? Should I try to just post videos specfically relating do scuba diving? Thanks

Most important things when you grow up your channel like CREATOR is your PERSONALITY you will have at less 60% of your subscribers coming back to watch your videos only because of your personality , out there are millions videos like yours and mines but people subscribe and coming back to X person because of his personality wider range of topic is not bad , your are like a vlog channel so you can do it but if you are branded channel about BMW reviews you CANT do bmw and scuba on same channel

Depends on your content, if your videos are about reviewing vacation locations, don't be surprised if people are unhappy when you start posting comedy skits.

That being said, most people cover a broad range of videos, If you make science videos, you may also want to include technology as they are related enough that they appeal to your existing subscribers.

You have to be very careful, last spring I tried going from mobile gaming to PC gaming, just to see what would happen. The result was a handful of videos that got like 100-200 views, when my on-brand stuff would normally get 1,000+ at least. I chose to go back to mobile in the end because I didn't like giving up that many viewers. People who watch you on a regular basis expect a certain kind of content, a small to medium percentage will follow to different content you depending on how well they like you and how much the new topics appeal to them. Overall though if you want to gain a dedicated following my advice would be to stick to some sort of a focused niche and then "gradually" expand to related topics. If you post a bunch of videos on very different topics my experience is that it is hard to gain subscribers because they don't know what to expect in terms of future content.

The people who can usually get away with random assortments of different topics are usually established personalities who have a relationship with their audience to the point that the audience is watching to see them more than the topic of the video.
