How Important Do You Think Channel Art/Banner Is?

Hey everyone so I know for a long time people have told me that my channel is great but that I need to add a channel banner to help pull in viewers. I always kinda blew this off thinking that it really isn't that important enough to where I would pay someone for a banner.

So here's the question, how important do you think having a channel banner is and if so what kind of effect do you think it has. And lastly if you have a banner did you pay for it or had someone else do it for free, thanks!

I think a banner is really important personally. If I see a channel with a banner it comes across as unprofessional to me. It helps make your channel feel unique and will show people you care about your channel to make it all look really good. It also helps set the mood of what your channel is going to be, like if it's going to crazy and chaotic your banner will represent that or if it's calmer and softer you're banner will represent that.

Banner I've got right now is something I threw together myself and am currently looking into improving but I feel it fits the channel relatively well!

Learn Photoshop. It's INSANELY useful for doing Youtube stuff anyway. I wouldn't pay anyone for channel art, especially not when starting out.

I make all my art/branding/thumbnails myself. I'm not an artist, and I'm terrible at it, but it's a lot better than having nothing there.

It is important, at the start it doesn't have to be great or anything but still should be there :) I'm planning on re-doing mine soon when I get some new stuff to do it on

Click on a channel, sees terrible channel art and photo, leaves.

Bad channel art gives the immediate construct that your quality is bad too. Pay a designer (I'm currently available) and get great art and go from there.

I've never subscribed to a channel with s****y art, no matter how good their quality is.[DOUBLEPOST=1425341605,1425341413][/DOUBLEPOST]Wouldn't pay anyone for channel art;

To be honest, you have to. It took me 3 years to get to the point I am with designing, really want to sit there and waste 3 years of your channels time with s****y graphics constantly pushing people away?

For $40 I can brand your entire channel, banner, logo, cartoon character, endslate, all of it. That's an investment you could make back in a year, with hard work of course.

This thread is a nice reminder that I need to get off my butt and start brainstorming up a channel banner. I think they are very important. Anything you can do to keep someone on your page once they've stumbled across it is a plus.

So I posted on one of the request forums on here (with y'alls advice) and somebody kindly did a banner for me if y'all would go take a look and let me know what y'all think, I personally like it a lot and met more than my expectations

I agree with it being important. You just come out as a person who cares about his channel and puts in work to make it look presentable. I'm still working on updating my channel art/banner.

nigahiga still uses a default banner and he has 10 Mio+ Subs :D

Not but seriously. Yes, it is very important because if you see that someone has poor channel design you automatically assume that his videos aren't any better.
But good design doesn't automatically mean a lot of work. My channel banner really wasn't a lot of work and it's super simple, yet not to bad I think.

But paying for it? As I said, a banner can look good and be simple to make the same time.
So unless you want to have something really fancy I would just learn the basics of editing and have a try.

Moved this to the Branding & Channel Design. I believe it's important. It gives you a brand, gives you something a little extra :) I personally like looking at banners and avatars and seeing how cool they are. You don't have to 'pay' someone per say.......you could make a thread on YTtalk and ask someone to do it for free or for a shout out for example :)
