How does live streaming work?

So yesterday, I tried to live stream for the first time. I did not know what to expect. I did about a one minute video wishing my subs a Merry Christmas while BBQing a wild hog. When I posted the video, I kind of expected it to have some kind of special icon or something to let my viewers know that this was a Live Stream, rather than one of my normal produced videos. Nope, it just showed up as a normal video. This concerned me because, being live-streamed, without any editing, it was not up to par with my normal videos.

I am just wondering how other people use this Live Stream function effectively? Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
