How do you film DIY videos

I filmed a Christmas DIY last week and I really had problems with the placing and angle of the camera. At the end it worked out ok. I sat down at our coffeetable with the camerastand between my legs. I know it souds weird but it was the best way you can see what I did with my hands, and I could see in the camera display exactly what the camera was filming.

Do you have any tips Ideas how I can make my DIY videos better? Ok I need better lighting but I only have one lamp I can use at the moment. :p

I've done a few of these, and it sometimes helps to get two cameras going at the same time to help capture the action - using your better camera for your master shot. Even if it's just a cell phone, having a second angle will give you a lot more leverage in editing.

I'd suggest a close up shot to capture all the fine detail of what you're doing, and a high angle/birds eye view of the action. My best tripod can get a max height of around 7' - but even if you don't have a ridiculous tripod, you can probably secure a camera on a high shelf of a bookshelf or other piece of furniture.

Just couple that with an intro and an outro, and you're ready to go!

i use a 4k camera so all i need is a angle and i can zoom as much as i want, its for lazy people XD

Storyboard your shots before hand. Try to think about what the final product will look like for your planning. Use a stationary jib of some kind, or various heights if you only have tripods available.

You would have to know your angles beforehand. I've been doing enough DIY videos to the point where I know exactly where to zoom and focus.

This is where a camera with a swivel screen is the way to go.

My channel has lots of DIY and I often have to re shoot clips where I don't get the item framed accurately as I have a basic camera.

The only way to approach this is to know where the camera coverage is and work within that.

My next camera will definitely have a swivel screen.
