How do you figure out who to contact?

There are several companies (non-YouTube, standard everyday companies) I would like to contact directly to find out about possible opportunities to work with them to review/promote products, etc. But I'm not sure what's the best way to identify WHO to talk to at a company... other than calling the main number and trying to explain who I am and what I'm looking for... and hoping the operator knows who to direct me to.

Does anyone have any insight into how they identify the correct person at a company to try and contact for something like this? Do I just want the "VP of Marketing"?

Thanks!

I would not start with the VP, I would start with someone lower in the marketing department. Sales would probably also be a good department to start with as their goal is to generate income, so they could direct you to the correct person. The main thing is you need to think of who would want something that you are offering

Easiest way is to search LinkedIn for a Digital Marketing manager, if that fails call them up and ask for the Marketing dept. and then for who deals with Digital/ Online Marketing.
Note that alot of medium/ big companies will deal exclusively through a media buying agency for Online/ YouTube advertising/ branded content.

Also, just a tip, it may sound a bit rude but always preface any conversation with your contact by asking have they the authority to approve the integration or how much levels they will need to go through to get it approved. It's very easy to spend a considerable amount of time talking with someone to then find out it will take them weeks to get any sort of deal approved in which time some seniors may very well attempt to re-negotiate the terms of any deal reached.

Marketing is the department to contact. The sales department would be A waste of time as they don't make the marketing decisions.
Thanks! That's what I was thinking, but it's good to get confirmation.[DOUBLEPOST=1443226065,1443226043][/DOUBLEPOST]

Excellent advice! I really appreciate it.
