How do you deal with dodgy footage?

Some of you may know the feeling, recording a video, putting all this hard work into presenting yourself, your identity and sense of humor and then what does that damn program go and do? Crash! Suddenly all the footage you had is broken, but salvageable.

Don't be too shocked, it happens more than you'd like, the question is, how do you turn this downright dodgy footage into some wonderfully quirky funtimes?

Or do you just bite the bullet and start all over again?

What is happening when it crashes, are you saying the footage ends up corrupted or just everything you have edited so far ends up lost? I cannot say I have ever had that problem but then this might just be a problem only gamers face when recording.

Well in my personal experience, I've found footage tends to be corrupted, but i can recover it.
However sometimes audio sync issues occur, footage gets glitchy or doesn't sync up, but i take this as part of the creative editing process.

My question is more aimed at a creative solution towards this dastardly footage that sometimes, just doesn't wanna play ball.
How can you make something that because of the glitch/problem, looks like garbage - and turn it into comedy gold

I get you now, I have never had properly corrupt footage but I sure have had some dodgy footage with audio missing and audio sounding really hissy, I have never really found a creative use it myself and end up just deleting it. Maybe make some gifs out of it if it looks funny, face reactions are perfect for gif making.

Sometimes i make crazy voice-overs and change the sound of my voice, mess around with the video and throw in random effects. I thought i might do an outtake montage once i get more footage.
Something along the lines of birgirpall always cracks me up, especially their voices.

If the sound is messed up you can always do voice overs but if the film is messed up that's a little harder. Try and see what you can edit out and maybe add some effects to make it wacky looking. Or just re shoot. Or go to a corner, cry and curse your computer out. I think computers really need to come with a neck so you can strangle it.
