How do u get custom thumbnail without partnership?

I have been wondering for a while how you can get a custom thumbnail if you aren't a YouTube partner. It only shows 3 crappy screen shots that won't get any attention. Please if know how to do this explain below

You have to be youtube partner by enable ads on your videos.

I think you get it when you reach 5000 total views.

I think it's only for people who have adsense enabled. Because I see people with ads and custom thumbnails with less than 300 total views.

if youre not a partner and you don`t have adsence therea a trick to get a thumbnail ... you just paste the thumbnail at the end or begining of the video and the lenght of the thumbnail has to bee the same lenght of the video or a bit bigger and it has to be either at the beginning or the end, upload it like that and then you should have either the last or the first thumbnail the picture you uploaded and then using the editor tools youtube provides you just crop the thumbnail out of the video and save it make it public and thats it
