how do I plan for a short film?

Well it's a bit complex depending on the size of your project, tell me a little bit more and I might be able to help ^^

I am trying to a 2 part short film called Wand Games. They are my own version of Harry Potter. Both videos will be about 5-7 minutes long. I just need to know how I should write my script and so forth.

My advice for scripts, maybe you have a friend who is good at writing? If so, work with them to write it, it's quite a bit easier bouncing ideas around with someone to help you.
As for script writing, download Celtx (free) and have a look at this, it's a decent guide on how they are laid out;

Another thing..Don't underestimate preproduction, make sure you have as much planned as possible before shooting your short and don't make it up as you go, it often ends quite badly (speaking from experience here)..
If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask, it's a long and arduous process :p (depending again on how complex your project is)

Thanks. I'm going to get my friend and we'll work on a script. I'll tell you when I release the short film. Thanks again!

Definatly get someone to write with. It does help.

Also it might be helpfull to make a planning if you want the crew/actors to be availible.

If you make a 2 part focus on one at a time. Visit locations before the shoot & don't direct & do camera at the same time. Those are seperate roles!

If you don't have the crew though, you might be forced to, which sucks but is doable, even if it takes ages longer..

Fun Fact: Once I had to do directing/camera/light/sound/production..
Gotta love people who have no motivation to be in film courses!

I would use some scriptwriting software like Celtx or Adobe Story. Both of which have a free version, this will make script writing a lot easier :)
