How Do I Create Music Video Parodies?

Hi guys,

So I've been wanting to spice up my vlogging channel with a couple music video parodies, but I don't know how to create/edit them. So, I was hoping some of you could help me out with the following questions:

1. Where do you get the background music for the video you're about to parody? Do you find a karaoke version of the song and then dub over it with your own voice recording? How do you avoid copyright issues in that case?

2. How do you do sing the lyrics and keep pace with the song? Do you use your video camera to record your voice or do you use a built-in computer microphone? Do you use any special editing tips/tricks/software to do this? What would you recommend for someone using iMovie?

Answers to any or all of these questions are appreciated! Thank you in advance!!

Don't know about the first, but as far as the second get a free music editing program like fruity loops or something and learn the very basics (shouldn't be hard) get a cheap condensor microphone, and then load the music into the software, record your vocal over it, then lip sync to your newly made recording and use your new "song" instead the audio recorded in the video itself. But as far as copyrights and getting the instrumental I don't really know, I think alot of people have the skills to make it themselves but if you don't I'm not sure what you do.

I'm not sure where it is but when you are monetizing the video there is a option to say that the video is a cover/parody

That's what a majority of people do when creating a song parody, get a karaoke version of and dub over it. Bigger youtubers usually make a similar beat to it themselves or pay someone else to do it to avoid copyright issues.

In regards to how to record it: Get audacity or GarageBand (both free) and get yourself a rockband/ guitarhero microphone (they go for around £7). Hook the microphone up and then sing out the parts you have written as a parody. Then sync them up in editing with the editing software I mentioned earlier.
Make the song first then make a music video around that. A majority of people who sing into a microphone to make those videos (like let's say Mikey Bolts and his family guy songs) actually make the song first and then pretend to sing into the mic and edit it all together to match.
It's what I did for my video on ProfKrancVA :-)
