So some of the bigger youtubers like Shane Dawson, TimothyDelaGhetto have acquired channel names like youtube.com/Timothy and youtube.com/Shane. I was just wondering how do they get these?

Everyone has them. If you type youtube.com/ then your username, you'll be taken to your channel.

I think they either contact YT support or the network they're with... it helps that they have millions of subs + views tho. (I've requested before and got denied :()

They either owned them already, or they worked with YouTube directly. The accounts were probably inactive so youtube gave them to them.

Not like that, I mean they actually get the URL youtube.com/timothy. They weren't the ones who created it. But somehow they got the URL/account from YouTube.[DOUBLEPOST=1390590828,1390590792][/DOUBLEPOST]

Ahh is there like a form or does it just depend on your connections on YouTube?

I doubt YouTube would do this just so they could have URLs with their names in it. But who knows, YouTube has made some questionable decisions before :/

well the reason how "Fred" had gotten his was because the first year no one was on youtube really so they had a first come first serve URL and channel name. now you can pick a channel name but cannot have the same URL.

Oh sorry. I must of misunderstood the question.

In many cases, YouTube actually gives them the usernames. I know that Luke Conard, who still has his youtube.com/LukeConard channel for his music, was given youtube.com/Luke by YouTube (they actually contacted him and asked him if he wanted it). He took it and has used it for a vlogging channel (effectively abandoning his LukeConard2 channel).
