How can I overcome this?

When I'm writing a script and doing proof-reads I get the exact way I want my voice-over to be. But whenever I start recording, I get so scared of messing up words that I freeze in mid sentence and when I do restart the sentence I get overwhelmed with how it's meant to sound - After doing it two or three times.

I don't want to talk at people, I want to talk to them, in my last recording which I did 10 minutes ago I went off script a few times to be natural (I want to go off script sometimes).

I just feel like I'm on the sport and the stutter turn on.

If you're recording then it shouldn't matter how many times you mess up, as you can just delete that part. Why get scared? I used to be in an abriged series of digimon (but the editor quit so we never got around to uploading, and since then everyone has gone their seperate ways) and whenever i got scared of messing up or whatever i just told myself "i'll just edit it out, who cares?!". maybe try joking around with random things while recording, before you go on to doing the lines, might help, idk.

It just takes practice. Believe me when I started it felt really awkward talking at the camera, but now I'm not even thinking when I'm talking. It's almost like you go into a zone and forget there's even a camera there. Just practice and it will get easier.

this is something i need to work on as well, try maybe writing down on a piece of paper what you would like to discuss. Then just get in your zone ;)

I would like... ok I know when I'm doing vocals, if I do it too many times or over think it, I have to get away from it, go do something else, maybe practice a little more away from the Mic so my lyrics get further engrained in my mind, then when my mind is on something else and I'm feeling pretty good again and doing the vocal doesn't seem like... "work", I go in and do it again and usually get a much better take. If you're too like, right there and involved in your performance you're gonna over think it, so the best thing for me personally is to step back from it, and let it become new again. Hope that helps!

Practice makes perfect. I was in the same boat as you and still am to a point. But after 60 videos I have gotten a little better about being in front of a camera. Keep it up, and good luck.[DOUBLEPOST=1355738550,1355738542][/DOUBLEPOST]Practice makes perfect. I was in the same boat as you and still am to a point. I know what you mean.
Everytime i try to record a song i get all nervous. idont know why i do it but it happens.
The thing i do is trying to forgett that im recording.
sure it takes practise but everything do :)
Just take a few seconds when you start rec to calm your mind :)

You could also take a communications class at your local college.. Not a university but just a little state or technical school. Also, as terrifying as this is going to sound.. do live shows.. after a while, it becomes second nature. You can do it! :)

Don't use a script because people will hear that you are just reading. I need a script, if I spoke off the bat my videos would be beyond screwed up, I take your bigger point though to not stick permanently to the script and I agree, in my last video I've thrown one or two things in off script.

It's also about voice acting, I have to learn to act/live the script rather than just say what it is.
