How can I add chord diagrams to my video

I am looking to add chord diagrams to my youtube vids, but not sure how to go about it ? Will I need something quite advanced or will a simple editor do the job ?
 
You mean just pictures or chords updating as you change them/play? If it's just pictures you can just add them to the video editor usually.
 
Either really, I want the chords to appear at certain times, and then go away to be replaced by other ones .

Yeah the 2nd method might require something more complex, unless you want to manually animate it or unless you can find some sort of software that detects chords on the guitar (or w/e), displays them on the screen and then record the screen. Otherwise like I said pictures you can just add to the editing software, you just make it show up when you want lol
 
can I add pictures to movie maker, over the movie as it were, would that be called overlay ?

I'm pretty sure you can. Some people have used it to make slide shows. I'm not sure if you can add it on top of a video as a layer though. It might just be a single layer but you can always try.
 
yeh it needs to be on top of video, what programs are capable of that, or should I say what programs make that simple ?
