Home DVD video to YouTube

So I have about 50 DVDs filled with home video that I've taken over the years. Most video is 720p, some 480.

Is YouTube a good place to store video that I've ripped from my DVDs and keep the videos private? I would love them at my fingertips on YouTube instead of stored away on DVDs.

Do any of you have a good strategy or workflow for getting home movies from DVD to YouTube? I'm on a Mac, and have iMovie.

And one more question, is it possible to get my 720 video on DVDs onto YouTube at the same quality as it is on DVD? Thanks so much for your help!!

I store everything on OneDrive and it is really easy to find your things if you organise them properly. I guess dropbox would work too but I have used OneDrive for years now and love it .

I would be scared to leave them all on youtube, just in case youtube dies or something...I don't really understand technology
