Hiding old videos: hurtful or helpful?

So I'm thinking about hiding my old videos from the general public, aka put them on private.
I have a lot of good content in the making and a few videos that are actually good.
The oldest ones are terrible quality in more ways than one (video, audio, lighting ect).
On one hand, the bad quality would disappear but on the other my total number of videos made would lower (via public inspection).
Would hiding the worst of my content help my channel or would the lower public video count hurt my channel?

yeah mine are the same way i decided not to delete/hide mine because i want my subscribers to see how ive progressed over the years
That's pretty much exactly what I was gonna say. I HATE my repzion video, I mean HATE, CRINGE even, I hate some of my early comedy attempts, and I hate how I can see my old arrogance in some of my old vlogs (playing with my hair like crazy, trying to act/look sexy) All these things embarrass me terribly, but I mean, in a way it feels noble to leave it up. That way people can see that this is a learning experience, and anyone who can relate to my old hang ups can go "Whoa, symph used to act that way! Maybe I can change too!" But it's up to you I mean, it can be inspiring for the people who really admire you, but it could be harmful when people see it who it's their first impression. But I'm not one to really let embarrassment stop me from anything, so I leave my vids up.

I think it really depends on the number of old videos you wnat to hide and the number of new videos you have coming up.
If you have videos that show you in a way that just isn't good enough for you and wasn't good enough for the old you, then you should definitely consider hiding them..
If the videos were not under your level, when they were made.. Then they really show your progres and I suggest keeping them.

as everyone has pretty much already said, keep them. It is a great way to see the progression of your channel and it shows that you are improving your craft!

what some youtubers do the hide it for a year or two and then when it's their channel aniversary the do a video about how they started off and how bad they thought they were and how awsome they are now, you can get views out of it. i'd say if your old videos have a huge view count keep them, if they don't remove them and hopefully the newer ones would replace them even better.

That's actually a pretty good idea! I'm still gonna leave mine up but that makes alot of sense!
