HEY! new guys and gals, listen up

don't get me wrong. i love it when someones here subs to my channel and leaves a comment saying where they found me, have made some cool new friends from here. just don't do it to spam your channel. its funny, you always know those guys watched none of your video before commenting how much they loved it
Its so obvious haha. I once put a video up (back in my earlier days when I was rather crappy at time management) and it was about 30 odd minutes long. Someone commented 'I loved it, like my stuff?' on it in about 3 minutes of posting. Yeah.... I am about 80% certain they watched exactly none of it

A few times a day i check the whats new section of the forum. and i see a ton of new posts in the introduce yourself sub forum, thats fantastic, its great to meet new people, learn new stuff, make new friends. its great to see YTTalk growing at such a rate

however.

i have had 3 comments on my videos in the last week saying stuff along the lines of "hi there. saw you on YTTalk, really loved your videos. i liked and subscribed, please check out my channel <link> and comment and subscribe please"

its not just that. its the people who try to self promote constantly on this forum. your missing such a great opportunity if you opened your eyes

posting a video or link on a random forum might net you a few random views. maybe even a subscriber. but that's nothing compared to what you could learn from the people on this forum

there are so many good threads in all the different sub forums that could help you improve your channel so much, from the content itself. script writing, editing to channel art, thumbnails and SEO

i guarantee that if you new guys took a few hours one day and read some of the sticky threads and other interesting topics posted on these forums. and listened to some of the great people here with a ton of experience you would gain exponentially more than a few views and a sub. this could put you on the path to something great.

alot of new youtubers are under the impression that more subs = more success...which is true to a point but when you do it like that, you are really only hurting yourself. You want people to subscribe because they watched your video, not because you asked them to. sub4sub does more damage than good. Its like, if a person has 500 subs and they only get 50 views on a video, people will think..."The people subscribed to this channel dont even view the content, so why should I"

So im glad you brought that up in this post, everything you say is VERY true

so stop looking for shortcuts. no sub4sub. no advertising on this forum (other than posting your videos in the videos and channel sub forum) . no advertising in comments on other peoples videos. put in some effort and some work and you will reap the benefits

I've learned quite a bit in my short time here, and I can certainly appreciate where you're coming from!
I've tried a few of the Facebook groups, and so many people just reply to your comments or links with that sub4sub bs.

This forum has been an information gold mine.
please don't ever stop people! :)

thank you so much for the info! I kind of figured this site was about helping and getting to know other YouTubers, but this info is still appreciated from a newcomer like me :)

I completely agree! All the subscribers I've gotten from this forum isn't because I asked them to subscribe, it's because I greeted people in the Introduce Yourself and because I participated in their threads!

I don't like this method of getting subs. It's pointless, a part make sub number look bigger to get more people to sub on that point, what is that going to do for more views? Nothing. They don't like the content, they just post looking for subs. Half the time, I get twitter people asking for subs where there is only one vid with some lazy Call of Duty comp. I generally just ignore there requests and let them unsub. I have no interest in that. I want people here for my content. So far I get a lot more views despite having only 38 at the moment, so I am doing something right. I will sub only if I like your content, not because quote doing a favor.
