Help with making

I am trying to take just the green part and put gray underneath it. I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of the white and just keep the green.

Not sure what your using]but with gimp if you go to colour, than colour to alpha and choose white
It should erase all the white and make it transparent
Oh and save it as a png
