Help need a external mic.

Not sure if i am posting in the right place. if not feel free to move it.

Need help. I am looking for a good cheap external mic for a nikon d5100. Anyone have any suggestions. Will mainly us the video part for YouTube. Yes I want to branch out in to taking pictures. Forgot to add I am on a budget I want to stay under $100.00 dollars.

I know you said under $100 but you should really save up and get a microphone that is amazing for you rmoney. I'd suggest a Rode Videomic Pro, I believe its somewhere around 200. The thing is the mic is such great quality you can use it for your video microphone but you can also record great narration/commentary with it as well. Sorry if I didn't really help because I suggested something out of what you were asking, though

I know I was told the same thing by lots of people
 
what about the zoom h1? it's $85 on amazon and pretty bad a**... check it out on amazon and read the reviews... cheers!
