Im saving money up for a new capture card and im thinking about getting a HD PVR 2 for better quality. What do you think is better?

I'm not sure viewers are going to be able to tell much of a difference.

My HD PVR 2 gaming edition hates on my Sony Vegas quite frequently.

Make sure the one you buy has HDMI input as the newer consoles wont have component out. ill have to upgrade soo as I have a HDPVR 1 :(

One thing I wonder about is how I'm going to get my headset to work with a PS4 while also recording through a PVR. I don't know any Headsets that are HDMI only.

Elgato's been doing it for me. Great quality and can record voice while recording video. File sizes can be big but you can adjust your quality. I edit in Premiere Pro with no issues.

Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition has been working like a dream for me.
Sony Vegas just seem to crash when I try to import 60FPS 1080p videos :I
So I need to convert them to 30FPS with the program that it comes with.

Do you convert them, or just record them at 30FPS to begin with?

Either way could you explain your process?

Usually the games just run at 30FPS in 1080p, so then it's no problem.
But when I recorded Wind Waker HD it recorded it at 60FPS in 1080p, so I had to convert the video to 30FPS with the program that came with the hardware, cause it crashed vegas when I was importing it xD

But there might be a work around, and I use Sony Vegas 12 so idk if it works better on older versions.

It pretty much chooses the native output unless you choose something else yourself :p

I've been using the Elgato HD for about 2 days now. It's pretty good, so far, only issue I'm having is that the game lags when I play, but I'm using a s****y monitor and need to test it on a real TV. I did have the Hauppauge PVR 2 GE Plus, problems galore. I bought it to record audio in 5.1 and listen in 5.1 (as my C985 only records in 5.1) but it would only play in stereo. Also the videos were unwatchable until I passed them through handbrake which reduced the quality from 14mbps down to 3mbps which made it redundant to be recording HD/Full HD. Also I couldn't even get it to record PC footage. This could just be me though, I have very bad luck with technology. Elgato can also record in higher bitrate but recording at 10mbps is really all you need. It auto converts the files from .ts to .mp4 as well. It was p**s easy to setup. Only other issue is no hot button to record, you have to hit record on PC manually via the software. I'm in the same boat as you for Ps4 though, with the elgato I plan on getting a headset that uses the component connectors so I can voice chat and record MY voice elsewhere. But with PS4 not using component, I have no idea how it's even possible. Unless you get a HDMI to component converter but they're bloody expensive and of course defeats the purpose of having a Ps4 >.>

I have Vegas Pro 12 as well.

Occasionally my recordings give me a green Screen error in vegas, and then I have to rerecord the footage by playing it in windows media player and capturing it with OBS.

That's a step I'd like to avoid. I went into the settings and set the FPS to 30. But it doesn't always help.
