Has anyone reached out to blogs?

Since my channel is about high school and college advice, I have been searching some blogs today that pertain to my niche. I have sent some emails in hope for an exchange of promotion. What I am wondering is has anyone seen any success from branching out to blogs or any other websites besides the traditional social media websites? If so what tips can you give when negotiating the advertisement deals?
