where the fields are green and the air fresh
so i always stored anything youtube related on a external harddrive. but when i tried to plug it in today it said i had to formatate it before i could use it. so i went looking for a solution because im not formatating that thing.

one thing i found was that i could try to change or delete the stationletter (like C: D: or E: etc) when i tried to change the letter the same message would pop up telling to formatate it before use, when i delete the letter windows explorer doesnt even seem to notice the thing is plugged in (eventhough it does make the little plugged in sound).

so now im stuck with a useless harddrive with 400GB worth of videos, short clips and software that is like the most importand part in my youtube thingy. so does anyone know how to fix this issue?

thanks in andvance :)

You could try using some recovery software, other than that I am unsure if you can get access to the files again. I know when my memory cards do that I never see the files that were on it again and end up reformatting, I am fairly sure it does that when its unable to read the drive due to corruption. Good luck sorting it out.

thanks, ill try some recovery software then :)

Your harddrive might be dead, or at least dying.

But what you can try is this:
1) Go to a command prompt. (Press start and type "cmd", as administrator)
2) Write "diskpart"
3) When DiskPart has started up properly, write "rescan"
4) See if your harddrive becomes accessible

If this doesn't work, try opening another command prompt and type "chkdsk [insert drive letter here]: /f /r" and when it is done, try to repeat the above steps.

Hope it works out for you ;)

ill give that a shot first, thanks

Let me know how it turns out ;) If this works for you, you will be able to save a lot of data, if your harddrive is indeed dying ;)

well i couldnt be just breaking down, its only a year or so old :/
but ill tell ya if i get some results

If you only knew :p I have had an external harddrive die on me the same day I bought it, for absolutely no reason at all :p

im not sure what is supposed to happen, but it hasnt helped, it did kinda change something though... but now it sais the stuff about a cyclic redundancy check :/[DOUBLEPOST=1377897456,1377897421][/DOUBLEPOST]

Did you try both things I wrote? :) Yeah, the "cyclic redundancy check" error is pretty much a death sentence, sadly :/

Try again starting with chkdsk and then diskpart. You may be able to get it to work temporarily, so you can grap your stuff off of there ;)
