Green Screen Question

Symph

I'm a dude with a face and I know how to use it.
So I just built a green screen with various things from home depot, and I just tried to use it. I've tried seeing what happens when I green screen on a white background out of curiosity, and you just get a fuzzy blueness all around and you don't see the picture or background you insert at all.

So I just tried it and what happened is the background shows up. You can see it, but I'm BEHIND it! Like, you'll see my head pop out a bit or arm movement or see me for a second when I move a certain way, but I'm not clearly in front of the back drop I inserted. I've never tried this before so I have NO IDEA what that means, help?

You made that over complicated? So it's a movie? Put a green backdrop making sure it covers everything so you are surrounded by it, add it into a program like adobe after effects, add keylight 2.1 select green as the colour and then add a new solid (the new colour) or add a new video behind the layer and it will replace the green :) Hope that helps!

I don't have adobe, I have imovie, you just choose the "green screen" option and there isn't anyone to change any settings I don't THINK.... maybe there is and I don't know...

Chroma keying. What a headache. lol I haven't used my green screen in months.

My advice is to watch a few tutorials. Then it's trial... and error.

... and frustration. lol

Ohhhhh so there probably IS a setting issue and I don't know how to change it, ok I'll look up "how to green screen in imovie" or something, thanks!

I know that guy, he puts like every video he has on fireviews and I always thought it was just hysterical, like it's one of those things that's is sooooo soooooo stupid, you just can't help but laugh.. hahaha I might message him and see what he has to say, I have some vlogs that are so stupid their funny too, so we already have something in common.

the bathroom video was very funny good luck I am not to the Green screen yet

Okay, I haven't used iMovie, but I use green screen on every video, so here's my best shot.
  1. Make sure your green screen is well lit behind the subject or the subject will cast shadows that darken it.
  2. Make sure it is evenly lit. Light it from both sides using bright lights. I use my camera to ensure it is even. Just look at the lcd screen at a sharp angle (standing above it) and any dark spots will show up.
  3. Do not wear the same color (or even close) as the color that you will be keying out. If you are using green, do not wear green. I have two different backdrops that I use depending on the colors of the subject.
  4. Add both videos, the background and foreground, to the editor. The foreground is you with the greenscreen and will go on top of the background. BG= Layer 1, FG= Layer 2
  5. Apply the Chroma Key, Color Key or Green Screen effect to the foreground video. The name of the effect varies depending on the editor. Some have several types, but they all basically work the same.
  6. It should have a key color with a dropper to select the color. So, select the screen color from one of the frames of the video.
  7. Then set the tolerance to a high value. This determines how close a color must be to the selected color in order to be made transparent.
  8. If you are lucky, it will also have some options for removing color spill on the edges of the subject by removing some pixels and blurring them back in.
  9. If the backdrop is not properly lit, you may have to add the effect multiple times using slightly different colors.
  10. You might also look for a matte to block out large areas that are not needed. I use this to remove myself from the video before keying.
  11. Hair is often difficult to do properly because it is partially transparent. You may have to apply a color correction effect to that area to remove the green screen color.

holy crap, "If you are using green, don't wear green" While not neon like the green screen, my shirt IS in fact green, this may be the issue.
