So before i could even give credit i got dinged by someone who used the music in a remix and claimed it as thier original material. Original owner says keep it but lu monitization it going to the pirates who stole his music. Its the video in my signature. Its when we roller skate

You can't ''claim'' someones work as your original without given the exclusive right to the material by the original owner by signing a contract. Its what i do as well i create music and i sell licenses to them involving contracts. If the original owner didn't allow the person to use his piece of music for the remix and whatever its still his and if he says you can use it then you can use it. What he most likely ment is the person has content ID so if you monetize or not the ad revenue will go to the person who stole the music. But hey if he didn't allow the person to remix it he should do something about it cuz theres alot he can do and take care of it.

A few things:

1) Taking down a video generally never "solves" anything -- it just forecloses your other options. (For example, if you had a copyright strike, then taking down the video removes your option to submit a counter-notice or attempt to get a retraction from the striker)

2) "Giving credit" is not sufficient to avoid copyright infringement. So I don't want you to think that you can just put a blurb in your description or whatever saying, "oh, all copyrights to XXX". That's NOT enough. However...

3) If you have permission from the original owner and that is NOT who the content ID match is from, you should be able to dispute the claim either by saying that you have permission from the original owner or that the content ID match is not the right material (if you are in fact using the original and NOT the remix).

Usually if any of my videos get claimed against I take them down, but if you think you can win the claim then take it further.
