Got a copyright strike, what should I do?

I just had a video taken down. What would your advice be on how to handle it? Should I request a retraction or submit a counter-notification? My video used pictures and footage that was copyrighted but I believe it was in accordance with fair use.

The copyright holder obviously does not believe it was "fair use".
All you can do is submit a counternotice if you still believe it was.

Most of the time, those claims are automatic, they are never reviewed by a real person. If you're sure it was fair use, counter-claim it. It will get removed right at 30 days so they can take all of your revenue whether it was valid or not. That's how these things work.

Gotcha. It does say that it was "Manually detected". Is that reason to be cautious?

That means someone saw it and reported it or it was found by someone at the claiming company. It doesn't really change anything. A claim is a claim. If you're sure it's in error, dispute it.
