Good Microphone!?

The Blue Snowball is THE microphone in terms of good quality for a cheap price. Now I'm a voice actor, I HAVE to have good quality sound for those who hire me. And though I'll be upgrading to something better in the future, the Blue Snowball is good enough for even me. If you check amazon, the price fluctuates. I got it really cheap one time it was $30, but you have to keep in mind to get only the most basic version. The microphone itself is not blue; "Blue" is the brand name.

Also, by getting a blue snowball, you won't have any way to mount it other than the included mic stand that sits on your desk. You normally would need to buy a shock mount that is way more expensive than the mic itself. (No one should have to do that, as such I just did a video on the subject)

Anyhow, if you want a cheap way to mount your Snowball, ya know, to get it out of the way and have it all cool looking and hanging over your head, you should get a scissor arm. Specifically the NEEWER Scissor arm mic stand. it fluctuates on Amazon for around $20. Cheaply made, but so cool! As of the time I'm posting, I believe it is $15 free shipping.

You've got some good points in your post, but I wanted to take issue with the first. The Blue Snowball is very well marketed as THE microphone for cheap priced quality. However marketing and truth are often not one and the same.

The sound quality is not very impressive. The mic becomes a good value for money when it's on sale at the $30 price point you mentioned, but at $50 or higher is overpriced. The Samson C01U is superior in every way for only $60, from audio quality to standard mounting brackets to avoid the proprietary shock mount nonsense. I've heard recordings that people made with a rockband mic that sound as good as the Snowball and finding a rockband mic for very cheap is easy.

Blue has, with the help of uninformed YouTubers positioned the Snowball and the Yeti as the go to microphones for online commentary. It is a brilliant marketing campaign, but after you spend a bit of time around mics, you'll find they're nothing special.

Yeah, and I believe that. Which is why I'm going for something with a bit of better sound, something with a bit of a more radio quality sound to it. Something like an MXL 990. It's a step up from the cheaper Blue products. You get much better quality when it's not hooked directly into USB. But rather through analog to digital conversion and the use of a sound board.

Yep. I use a Shure SM7B through a Behringer mixer. That's outside of most peoples price range though. I'd suggest you go the AT2020 route though instead of a 990, but that's just my personal preference. They're both good mics.
 
I use a Blue Snowball, they are really good quality microphones, it comes with a few settings as well. Really easy to set up and really easy to use. I think you can get one for around £40, i cant remember how much i paid for mine.
 
When I first started YouTube I used P11's which has decent audio considering their price but if you want to sound more professional I would reckomend the blue snowball or blueyeti (depending on how much you want to spend)

What games are you thinking of doing on your channel?
