Good mic for Let's Plays?

I've Got It
hey everyone this probably isn't so much of a mic question but i have the samson C01U and its good but my voice just sounds dull and not full. also my "s" sounds are crazy bad. like even with noise removal and de-essing it takes the noise away and then makes me sound dull and muddy. do you know of any mic that are rich and full for instance what jesse cox uses.

Thanks,
Mark

I've heard good things about audio technica mics, and the blue yeti snowball ice worked well for me when I first started, then I got the blue yeti which does a really good job eliminating the background noise. If your s's and p's sound weird try a pop filter I've also heard that tends to help.

Last I heard, Jesse was using a MXL 990, but he's making enough coin to afford a better one than that now.

I have some good news and bad news on your S's. Pop filters won't do a damn bit of good for those, but mic positioning might. Try a few "aiming" adjustments such as pointing the mic at your upper chest, or towards your forehead. This kind of thing can help with "sibilance", which is the good old S effects that unfortunately some people just have worse than others. You may just be stuck with it.

Now, all of that said. If you are at the point where a C01U sounds dull, I'd be wary about any kind of sidegrade mic. The Snowball is a clear downgrade. The Yeti is a sidegrade. AT2020 could work for you, but I would figure out a way to test it first. If you have a local store with a good return policy, that would serve the need. Sometimes, people just have an ear for quality and it's time to pony up $200-$400 for a really nice mic.

I really appreciate your input I do agree with the mic positioning if I'm farther away from me it actually sounds better right now I have it at about a foot away but if I move it to about two and a half feet it sounds 50 percent better so I think that helps a lot

The most common suggestion for this area in terms of good mics are Blue snowball or Blue yeti it`s the usually the most common one people get and it`s quite good to use.
