Giveaways? Good or Bad

How do you guys and gals feel about giveaways? Personally I think it draws in an audience but often times it's from random people that are only there to win something and when they don't they unsubscribe and may even troll your channel because they are bitter. I have never truly been a fan of doing giveaways because every time I upload a video I am giving the viewer a gift of quality and care. It seems like giveaways have gone from something nice to do to surprise subscribers to being expected and under valued, just my thoughts what do you think?

I think giveaways mostly have a positive influence on your channel. I never did one since I live in Europe and most of my subscribers/viewers are from the US and Japan...

Great idea, don't giveaway money items though unless you make a good income from youtube. I suggest giving away free items such as graphics ect.

I've only ever done one giveaway and that was because i was ending a series early and I wanted to make it up to my small amount of subscribers haha :). It is abit hit and miss. I know a sub of mine who said he was giving away an elgato and a copy of gta 5, then shortly after started recording gta 5 videos, he never announced the winner... I think if you are going to do giveaways you should do them for the right reasons, to reward loyal viewers and not to just draw attention to your channel from people who don't have any intention of subscribing :)xo

It can create an audience where their main interest is getting something from you, personally I wouldnt want an audience who was like that, I would want a genuine interest in my content without being bribed into watching it somewhat.

I like what @markkaz does with his giveaways it is subtle, doesnt mess with the TOS and creates a healthy commenting environment. His viewers knows he does giveaways but they are not informed before the giveaway and they dont have any requirements, he just chooses someone who is a regular on his channel.

I stopped doing public giveaways years ago. It attracts the wrong kind of crowd and doesn't foster a healthy community. If I decide to send somebody something, it is because of their participation, not because of some random contest.
