Gateway Videos and Facebook

Hey guys! So I'm trying out a gateway video today (actually I don't know if it's technically a gateway video but it's short, has wax strips involved and is hopefully entertaining).

My question is when posting this to facebook, should it be a facebook video, or a link to the video on youtube? I know I'd benefit from the views it'd drive to YT, but I don't know if facebook videos get shared more often and possibly drive more people to my channel in the end.

Any insight?

You have 3 options:

  1. You can put a Youtube link but Facebook will not promote it as Facebook doesn't like Youtube. I feel like recently it's not even displaying an image anymore, just showing the text URL link.
  2. You can upload natively to Facebook and get more exposure.
  3. You can create a teaser and upload it natively on Facebook, perhaps just 10-20 seconds which fades the audio and video out at the end, and then encourage people to visit your channel.
I suggest you go for option 3. Now it's up to you if you want to put the Youtube Link as well as uploading the teaser natively to FB. From my experience, Facebook still promotes it and has driven traffic to my channel. But still understand, not everyone is gonna click the link and head over to your channel. So what you should do is wait about 5-7 days, and then upload the entire video to Facebook. So if they end up liking your video, they'll be more likely to go to your channel the next time you upload a teaser. Also make sure you put captions on your teaser video, as Facebook auto plays videos without audio, and leave Black space above and below your video so you can put a catchy text.

My last advice is to upload your teaser video on your fan page. And if you're going to promote it on your personal page or in other Facebook groups, then simply share the post. This way, you'll be promoting your fan page at the same time.

I made a 30 clip of my latest video and uploaded it natively on to Facebook, and I put a link in the message for the full recipe. I got more engagement from it and it was viewed more. I haven't checked analytics yet as to whether people clicked through to the video on youtube though, its extra work editing another video so I'll see if it's worth it after a few times.

Nice, thanks guys! I asked a bit late and just did a YT link, will definitely go for the teaser thing in the future!
