Gaming channel vs. Vlogging channel

Waffles?!
So something interesting is going on and I want to see if I'm the only one, as well as get an opinion.

So currently, my gaming channel has 95 subscribers. Now, quite a few of those are advertisers and people trying to sub4sub. My most recent videos, have 1 view, 3 views, and 5 views. This seems to be around the average, is that my views stay single digit.

Now on to my vlogging channel. My vlogging channel has 9 subscribers. As I've done barely any advertising for my vlogging channel, I have barely any advertising/sub4sub dead subs. My most recent video views are 13, 11, and 22.

So I'm curious to know, if this happens to anyone else? Why is vlogging so much more eye catching than gaming? Because it's definitely bringing in the views, regardless of the sub count.

The advice that I'm looking for, is whether you think it would be a smart idea for me to focus more on the vlogging, and less on the gaming. As of right now I focus more on the gaming and less on the vlogging, but I thoroughly enjoy both, so I'm really happy with whatever way I go.

I could be very badly wrong (so don't quote me on this), but I think gaming as a category is very saturated with very similar content. With vlogging, you get to show your face and more expression, along with a little more freedom (I'm not denying that vlogging is saturated also, but I don't think it is as much as gaming). Maybe that's what draws people in.

In terms of advice: personally I'd say just do what you enjoy doing, as I presume that's the reason you began making videos.

Vlogging is very different from gaming. Im a vlogger. I tried to start a gaming channel, it just want my thing. I liked the being in front of the camera and ranting or talking about whatever I want instead of commentating on a video.

Well gaming and vlogging are two complete genres. You can't compare both of them because their audiences are completely different.

Gaming is the most popular genre on YouTube. It is also the most over saturated genre, and the hardest genre to get noticed. Many people trying to become something through gaming don't get the recognition they think they deserve, so they try to seek it out by doing this like sub4sub, advertising on others channels, etc. There are so many people doing gaming, that the chances of getting noticed is quite slim. So many people doing the same games, same kind of commentaries, same kind of series, etc.

Vlogging on the other hand is different. Vlogs are more personal, and usually interact with the viewers more. People can relate to vloggers quite easily. While gamers are making videos about games/what is going on in the game, vloggers are making videos about personal experiences, thoughts, ideas, situations, etc. While gamers are playing all the same games, vloggers are talking about all sorts of things. When you look at different vlogging channels, you probably aren't going to see the same kind of video. Sure there may be some similar, but for the most part the videos are different. When you look at gaming channels, you usually see the same thing.

As to what you should focus more on, find what you truly enjoy more, and go from there. It's defiantly hard to balance multiple channels equally, so find what you're most comfortable with. I am mainly a vlogger, but I also have a gaming channel on the side. I focus more on my vlog channel because that's what interests me more. I still keep up with my gaming channel, but I could put more focus/work into it if I truly wanted to.

If you think about what a vlog involves, it allows a viewer to more easily connect and understand. Provides them with the opportunity to see your personality instead of rely on hearing you over gameplay. As people have already said, they are both two truly different categories and each have their own merit. That said, I would focus on what makes you happy. Don't become too driven by statistics and rely on the fun factor. Luckily you said you enjoy both so you could easily find a balance.

Thanks guys, you've all given me a lot to think about. Personally I think I'm starting to enjoy the vlogging more, simply because it gives me more freedom to express myself. :)

You should consider an adword campaign for at least the first episode of a serie, i've watched one of your zelda let's play and tehere is no reason that you can't get more view, you just have no exposure, Zelda is overplay though...

Keep up !

Every vlog is a little different. Games can often be very similar, as people react to the same surprises. Plus, vlogs are shorter :D
