Free software that can put layers of audio files

So I've been using Windows Movie Maker, and it's been ok ......
anyway, I've been looking for a free alternative. Preferably somethign where I can lay down multiple audio files, so that I could put not only narrative, but maybe background music of background chatter as well!

I think I thought of a way to do that in Windows Movie Maker, BUT it's quite the hassle, and I'd like to see if I can get something easier.

oh true! but a trial will only last me so long, so I was thinking for a bit more long term

Well I just got an audio software called Wavepad Sound Editor it's free and I'ts helping me with stuff so check it out hope I helped

In reality you aren't going to fine the good stuff like that for free but Arcsoft ShowBiz is what I use.
