Frame rate dropping

Hi guys.

I've just recorded my first live commentary, and watching it back I saw that the frame rate dropped several times throughout. I'm using the Roxio Game Capture Pro HD to record with. I was wondering is there a fix for this?

It does that because recording takes up a lot of your computers hardware. One way of solving it is getting a better/upgrading your computer. Try recording at a lower resolution and make sure the settings aren't too intense, it should help a bit :)

Try recording to a separate harddrive if you haven't already. This takes a workload off of not only your computer but your harddrives making better and smoother recording. This is especially relevant for slower computers.

Can any external hard drive be used to achieve this?

I'll look into this. Thanks for your help.[DOUBLEPOST=1388529082,1388528916][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yessir! Preferrably a faster harddrive will be best. But any typical drive that runs properly can increase your performance drastically.
Any recommendations before I start surfing the net?

Not really, if you can try to find one with higher speeds. Otherwise I tend to stick to Western Digital or Seagate. Kinda depends on the price.

Hi.

A quick update. I bought myself a WD external hard drive, and i've got my capture device recording to it. It now works perfectly no frame rate drops and same quality. I thought i'd post this to thank you again. Plus i think anyone who reads this knows what too do if they have the same problem.

Great! I'm so happy that it worked out for you. When I figured that out it literally felt like a life hack. xD

I'm not familiar with that game capture software, however when you record at 1920x1080 resolution, you will only be able to record at 30 FPS. If you try to record HD resolution at 60 FPS, you'll stutter. If you want to record at 60FPS, then you need to use "half size" which would be half of whatever resolution you are recording at.

If you are using an external hard drive, I'd make sure its a USB 3.0 hard drive as the slower the hard drive, the more open you are to stuttering. Also make sure to defrag your hard drive from time to time (DO NOT DEFRAG A SOLID STATE IF USING ONE), as this will help with recording.

If you are still noticing stuttering at 30 FPS full size (your current game/screen resolution) then you may need to change your graphic settings and set them lower. A lot of times you'll just have to experiment before actually starting a new series or starting to record.
