So I've been at this Youtube thing for about 1 month. (I have videos before that but I didn't have a capture card, mic, or anything back then). That being said, over this 1 month period I've gained 533 views, and 18 subscribers. Not too bad, but definitely not what I had envisioned before I started.

I'm looking for some critiques of my channel, very specific would be preferable.

The things I do have going for me, I think anyway, would be:

* Professional Banner
* A brand (All my videos are tagged with the same avatar and name "bSMPlays"
* Professional Thumbnails
* Professional EndCard (See latest video for an example of this)
* Quality (Thanks to Capture Card 1080p)

Things I don't have, in my opinion:

* Promotion? (Have a Twitter, Blogger Blog for my channel, and accounts of a couple of forums, but not enough?)

* Tags (I'm horrible at tagging my videos, and I don't think I get any views from people just searching, mainly people I give the link to.)

* Mic Quality (Could be better, but I'm not investing another $100 into Youtube just yet xD)

So what do you guys think are my flaws?
 
You should use your social media more to your advantage, you should also not just use them for promotion.

Also you're channel art (banner mainly) could use a bit of work as its not that nice of the eyes.
 
I've watched a few of your videos and the professionalism is there imho. I mentioned this in another post, but I'd recommend really looking into SEO. You mentioned you have bad tags. That's part of it. Check your analytics and find out how people are coming to your videos. If it's mostly people going directly to the link then they aren't finding it from searching.
 
Just checked out my stats, and a measly 0.5% are from Google Search, 3.9% are from YouTube search. The most is my channel page with 38%, followed by 22% External Website. :(

I guess I'll try to learn the tricks of SEO. I even have a Blogger Blog branded for my Youtube so you would think I'd be getting better results.

Really? I was actually quite impressed with the Banner, since I made it on my own first try haha. What's wrong with it, the background ?
 
So your blogger (and every other website) uses SEO too. Search engine optimization. The blogger site will give more links to your page so in theory, helps people find your videos. However, the blogger needs to be found in searches also. If I wanna look for super Mario Wii u, what on your blog or channel will make your video show up?
 
The text you use in your thumbnails is hideous and barely readable. Your banner isn't that great and like you pointed out, your tags are a** - bSMPlays, bsmplay, bsm, super mario 3d world lp, smash 4, smash domain, brawl, lava rock lair boss, super mario 3d world bosses, donkey kong country tropical freeze (that's all I can see). Your video is about Super Mario 3D World, not Smash Bros. You would never, ever rank for "Brawl", take that out.

Done right, your tags would look something like this: Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario 3D World LP, Super Mario 3d World Let's Play, Super Mario 3D World Walkthrough, Super Mario 3D World (whatever world/level you're in), Super Mario 3D World (whatever boss you're fighting).

Also, you said you're against spending $100 on a mic at this moment, but it's absolutely required. Your voice is what is providing the entertainment and people will click off fast if the quality sucks.

What exactly is so bad with the thumbnail text? I don't mean to sound defensive, but I can read it just fine. Also that's two people now that have told me to change the banner, so I will end up doing that, but I personally thought it was quite good considering it was my first attempt at making a banner.

As for the tags, I initially would, in the description of my videos, include ALL that stuff. I had a huge list of tags saying Super Mario 3D world, and all the variations you come up with. A bigger youtube that I messaged for help said that putting those tags in the description doesn't do anything but make it look messy. That's when I resorted to just putting feasible tags like "bSMPlays" or very mediocre ones like "Smash 4." All in all though, tags are something I'll have to learn to master, or read some guides to get better at.

I'm actually going to be uploading a video tonight, where I've fixed my volume, and I'll PM you with the link to ask if it sounds better. I honestly don't think its the mic, it's the mic-game adjustment that I had wrong initially which distorted things.

About the money thing though, it's hard for me to spend another $100, as I've already invested around $300 into Youtube, and I just realized a couple days ago that you can't monetize Nintendo's content, meaning I'll most likely never make that money back.

Didn't know that about nintendo. Is that true even if you are under a network? Are no partnerships able to get rights?

If not, down the line I'd look at getting a partnership so you can monetize.

I'll check out your channel more when I'm on my laptop not my phone, but I've been working my way through your Mario LP lol.
