Finding the right "audience"

Nope, no matter what I can tell you, you can bet your behind everyone else is doing it already. Just be yourself and continue on what you are doing. And yes, nothing will "blacklist" you more than saying "PLZ CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL" posts. Self advertising is really just not done and will have and adverse affect. Whenever a YouTuber sees your name behind anything they will avoid it like the plague once you are known as a "blatant self promoter".

Yeah, I definitely don't want to self promote on comments. Spamming is annoying.
And my channel is more of a hobby than a profession, but it would be nice to get more of an audience haha

Same here, it's the best hobby ever. But it would be a blatant LIE if I wouldn't want to do it for a living. But it's not in the cards, and besides, being dependent on YouTube for your income seems dicey with the way revenue goes up and down on a daily basis.

Yes, I definitely agree! Thanks for the advice. I checked out your channel design; I really like your drawing/avatar! I'm sure if your brand is consistent with your channel across other social media, it will be easier to get more subs

It's not always a guarantee, but it can help. Thanks for the compliment. My very good friend does all my channel art now and my banner was done by another very talented friend.
