Final Copyright Question - then I'm good :)

I'm in the process of creating my next video but want to use about 30 seconds of a popular hip hop instrumental for the intro. I do fade it out before it goes into my own recording so do any of you see this as a potential copyright issue?

Just want to make sure I keep my account in good standing. Thanks!

If you do not own the rights to that song then no you cannot!

Freaking sony is out of control with copy right stuff... I got copyright flagged for using part of a spongebob song "It's the best day ever"... Like wtf sony? how do you think you own that song? ha ha... What eves.

If you want to be in good standing and obey not just the YouTube TOS but copyright laws, I suggest you not upload that music. No one is legally allowed to upload content they do not own sans permission.

I'd say probably not as lame as it is. There are a lot of royalty free music providers though, I use teknoaxe and he has a nice hip-hop selection.

Out of control? If you made a song and Sony used just a small part of it in a major commercial, you'd expect to be compensated or be able to force them to stop using it.

I'll have to check that out. I've heard so many mixed opinions about this issue that it's still a little unclear. Many have said that if you use just a portion of an instrumental to a song (but not the song itself) as well as distort it, then you aren't in violation of copyright law. In fact, it was said right here on this site. Is that not accurate? Where are some of the other places I can go to maybe find a royalty free version of the instrumental I intend to use? It's Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones Part 2" btw, if that helps at all.

Thanks for your suggestions and recommendations. I appreciate it. ;)

^Man, that's a funny looking wink. Looks more like the little guy got his eye poked out.

Haha, well some people change the pitch of a song and use the "it's not the original" loophole but then you can get smacked for "altering property"... so either way you look at it you are risking something. I think the only legit way to use the song without risking trouble is getting permission (I just did this with a video game) or finding an instrumental produced by someone who will allow you the rights, how they check this..I have no idea.
