Extacting and Editing a YouTube video - whats the rule

Hello All

I have a question on the legals around editing. Whats the standpoint with extracting a video from YouTube editing it to a different soundtrack (a soundtrack produced by a mate), slightly editing the video it's self and then uploading it back up again.
Does this have an impact with respect of copyright etc?

Thanks

All material is copyrighted. Some video's have the option remix this video in the description. Then you are allowed to remix the video obviously.

Look up the "Fair Use Act" of your country. You can use pieces of a video if it fits under those guidelines. You can't rip off the whole thing...

Just because the video wasn't made by a major company doesn't mean that copyright does not apply.

If someone who is not you made it, you don't own it. Thus you would require permission or it would be listed as Creative Commons under license rather than YouTube Standard.
