Even though my videos say 720p, there is no difference?

When I render my videos (Video games, if that helps) I do it in 720p, however when I view the videos, I see no difference between 720p and 480p. Does this matter, is having the symbol saying "HD" just as good? I want my videos to be as high quality as possible. How can I fix this?

for a gaming video to truly be 720p u need to record the footage in an aspect ratio equal to that or above, what aspect ratio do you record in?

I think 480p, so thats the problem.
