This was mentioned to me as part of YouTube's latest algorithm. Has anyone else heard about this?

The main reason I bring it up is because audience retention (average view duration) has allegedly become one of the most important aspects of the overall algorithm. The explanation is that YouTube places a high value on videos that capture the attention of the audience and maintain it, using that as a means of sifting out the good videos from the bad ones as well as mitigating "cheat views" that can be bought and paid for as opposed to legitimate, organic views obtained through it's search mechanism.

Thoughts/opinions?

Having a high audience retention rate boosts CPMs by about 20% :)

Now THIS is really weird. I just lost over 400 views over night. Glitch? Or something else?

Gotcha. That makes perfect sense then as I have a lot of mobile views from when I shared it with my friends and family on facebook. Thanks!
