Elgato Setup

Hello,

I figured I should ask this here...
I ordered an Elgato, which should come soon and I am absolutley dying to play around with it! :bounce:

My current setup for all my technology is that both my computer and my Xbox 360 share an LCD TV as a monitor. What I'm really asking is wheather this setup would be okay if my Elgato was thrown into the mix. I have a laptop but I would prefer not to use it as it's a complete pile of... well you get what I mean.

This is probably a silly question but I thought I may aswell ask. I'm not amazingly tech savy but I get by...

Thank you in advance for any answers you provide![DOUBLEPOST=1366828381,1366792518][/DOUBLEPOST]Just to say that my Elgato nearly came today, except that no one was in to sign for it ¬_¬

So I anyone could provide and quick answers that would be great, as I want to play around with it once I finish work tomorrow!

Elgato connects via HDMI with almost no noticable lag/pass-through so that's no an issue, it just replaces the HDMI slot that your Xbox plugs into now. It would be handy if you had an HDMI switch or 2nd monitor (I have one that rotates 3 different HDMI inputs) as you'll be swapping between computer and Xbox/Elgato to start and stop your recording.

You couldn't play your games through the computer because there's a 2-3 sec delay (At least for PS3 there is).

I use the same monitor for my pc and my xbox as well.. It works great. Just start recording and then switch the input on the tv over to your xbox and play. When you're done recording just switch back to the computer and stop the recording and do what you need to do. The only problem of course is you can't see both screens at the same time, but if you're paying attention to the game you have no need to look at the computer.

The elgato is great! I plugged it all in yesterday and set it up to record. I only found out that that I had to switch HDMI cables everytime I wanted to switch my computer off and keep my xbox on.

I have been using the Elgato for awhile as well and that's the one thing I don't like is the fact I have to constantly keep my computer on

Tip! I've been on the Elgato for just over two months and I tried this and found it works regardless of console. As long as you have the HDMI going to a monitor/TV you can look at, and you want to avoid having to turn on your computer/laptop, just plug the USB cable coming from the Elgato box into an available USB slot on your console. The console will recognize an unsupported/unrecognized USB device, but the console should now display on the TV. When doing this you can't having both console turned on at the same time though, since you don't have software to select which one you want to display. You can still have the turned off console plugged in, just not on. Let me know if you need more explanation and welcome to the Elgato family!

That's really helpful! I'll be sure to try it. I must say the Elgato has been great beyond expectations and I've already put up my first video with it. Very pleased indeed!
