I heard alot about this Device but i still have question.
To the guys that have this device, do you record using the software that was received them the device or do you record using virtualdub for this (if its possible). If you cant use virtual dub then how do you compress your video using DivX or other software. What system do you use to make you commentary and voice overs and edit (Sony Vegas Pro)?

Uses sony vegas to perform my editsuse

I have An elgati, from experience I don't believe elgato can be used on any other recording software..... Elgatos drivers are wierd and its detected as a usb device rather than capture device. In terms of compression, elgato already compresses the file in the most efficient hd codec , elgato compresses the files with the h.264 codec in a mp4 container. I use sony vegas as my editor of choice, render the files using mainconcept mp4 format ...

I also have the Elgato. I see no need to capture anywhere else. Their software is simple and works. I transfer the file to iMovie for editing and voice overs.

I use an Elgato and I use the commentary feature that is included on the Elgato with my mic. My commentary is recorded with the gameplay when I do it this way, and it makes editing easier. I don't do post-commentary but, if I were to I'd use the Sound Forge Audio Studio which came with my Sony Movie Studio. I then take the video file that the Elgato recorded and edit it using Sony Movie Studio 12 (cutting, adding intro, etc.). I don't compress the file so I wouldn't know much about that, however, I know you can choose the file types using the Elgato (under the "edit" tab).

I record love with the elgato while recording my voice. Then I just put it into Sony Vegas and when I'm done editing I render it in 720p-30 .wmv

Elgato are very big and seems to be great from what I've heard.
Decently cheap, well promoted by big youtubers and professional in the way they do business.

The elgato works PERFECT for me!!! It has a great rep. when it comes to commentators. Plus the software that comes with it is free. Very easy to use, and the video quality is GREAT!!! You can either record both audio/video in the program it comes with, or record audio with audacity. Either way the works fine. Editing, I hear Sony Vegas Pro is the best
