Editing Transitions in Vlogs

Hey Guys!

So i've noticed in a lot of vlogs, especially Emma Blackery, when the camera switches the video carries on for literally a second before the video does.

It looks quite cool and i'd like to use it in my vlogs but I don't know how to do it :/

Does anyone know how to do this? I mainly use Premier Pro and Sony vegas Pro 12 so if you know about this software that'd be great! :D

Thanks,

Callum xx

I use Sony Vegas too!
You could ungroup the audio + video tracks by selecting them and clicking 'U' on your keyboard. This means you can delete a second off of your first clip's audio and... you know where I'm going with this. ;)

I assume you mean the audio carries on for a second before the video does.

In Premiere, you would set keyframes to fade the video out, but leave the audio track alone. There's no need to delete bits or anything, just fade it out and fade in the new clip.

Haha, sounds simple enough! Thanks, i'll try it out in my next video

Move the video track one layer up and slip the next clip underneath, put the starting point about a second before the above clip ends and BAM there you go! You could try fading the audio in and out during these cuts to make things smooth :)

It is called L cuts. This means that the audio and video is layered to make it look like an L. I am not familiar with the hotkeys in vegas, but an easy way you can do this is create two layers, slide the second video layer to where you want it to show up. Drag it over the bottom layer so it overlaps and eases the video portion. and vice versa with the audio. It's a little more sloppy than using hotkeys but again I'm not familiar. So look up how to do L cuts in Vegas, and learn the hotkeys and your life would be easy =)

Thanks! I'm now going I try it out on the video I've just filmed :)

Great! I know you said you already filmed it but make sure that you give yourself space before you start talking so you have room for the L cut.

Also if you ever get into sketches, L cuts are extremely useful in making smooth and seamless cuts from person to person.

Thank you :) I'll bear that in mind
