Editing Intro

I need an intro and I prefer doing things on my own as I love to learn new things. Has anyone got some advice when it comes to editing a professional intro? Some good tutorials and such.

Hey! I'd have to say make it easy to remember, a lot of popular channels have easy to remember intros like Smosh's <insert bad joke here> followed by "SHUT UP!" formula or the Yogscast music at the start of each video They stick inside your head and you remember the channel :0
What are you going to make it with?

Yeah, looking for something simplistic and professional.. I will most likely be using Sony Vegas for this one. If I have the money to spend on a new PC I will be using After Effects.
