Easy way to get PiP effect?

Okay, so... PiP is my official arch-nemesis.

Truth is, it's an easy effect to insert with something like Adobe Premier. But my free trial ran out, and I really don't want to pay for a CS6 license, nor do I have the motivation to go pirating perfectly legitimate software.

I downloaded a hack of sorts for WMM that lets me use PiP as a transition, with some limitations.

Is there any simple (because I am a simple guy), free-to-download video editing software that lets you easily insert PiP?

I think window movie maker should be able to do that too but I haven't used it in years.

Assuming you mean Picture in Picture, can't pretty well any video editing software do the two functions required? Resize video and play two or more videos concurrently in the timeline?

Yes, pretty well ALL can. Except Windows Movie Maker. Haha... trust me. I've looked into it extensively. You can download sort of a hack "transition" you can use to create a similar effect, but not as good. I guess maybe I could have phrased my question better. What I'm really asking is, "What free video editing software do you recommend using?"

Did a search and found Wax video editor. It's the only FREE editor I could really find. It can do PIP and multiple tracks, not sure how well the program works though. just google "wax video editor"
I read that it can be glitchy..

I suggest saving up some money and getting something good (but cheaper <$100) like Power Director $90 (What I use) or Vegas Movie Studio $50 (pretty sure this is fairly limited [never used it]) or Movie Studio Platinum $95 or Adobe Premiere Elements $99

Thanks for the advice, Michael. A friend of mine recommended Vegas to me. I'll check out Wax. And I've got a birthday coming up. Maybe - just maybe - I'll get some sweet video editing software. Truth is, even when I was using the trial period of Adobe Premiere I found it way too complicated. I mean, I'm vlogging - not making feature length movies. I need a few effects, transitions, multiple audio tracks, the ability to split, and the occasional picture-in-picture. That's about it!
